First Impressions: Drona

Drona (Abhishek Bachchan), whose best friend is a floating blue flower petal, is like a Harry Potter who grew up without ever getting sent to Hogwarts.

Stage magician Riz Raizada (Kay Kay Menon, vying with Jeremy Irons' Dungeons and Dragons performance for most ridiculous fantasy villainy) makes clones of himself in order to murder them, out of -- existential malaise? He also appears to have a couple of Cabbage Patch minions.

"Live life with this mantra. Think less and live more," Priyanka Chopra sings in her character's musical introduction. I don't know if they actually lived more, but thirty minutes in, it's already clear that they could have thought more about the film.

But I'll give it credit: the murderous puppet show was kind of humorous.

As a sci fi/fantasy/superhero movie watcher, even apart from Bollywood, I feel kind of required to watch this. Like I'm going to be tested on it. But I just couldn't do it. I sent it back, thinking, "Maybe some day." Poor Abhishek! It's ... really bad.
